Regarding the ongoing OSIWA/NULAI Pre-trial Detention Project, I most sincerely Aknowledge NULAI. As a participant from A.B.U Zaria Law Clinic, my Experience with inmate is lack of understanding; most inmate did not know the implications of certain offence. Especially, seperating Criminal offences and Civil matters. The police largely contribute to that unfortunate and Sad Situations.
Scenario from the interview I had with an Awaiting trial detainee in Kaduna Convict Prison. The detainee was charge with receiving stolling property, instead when he was arraigned before magistrate court... the police re-framed the charge to Conspiracy, stealling and Arm Robbery.
We therefore need to look at this very carefully and take it seriously, because the Agencies responsible to guard and shape the conduct of individuals in the society are now performing at Negative.
