My group is handling the case of West Chimaobi Peters, a gospel artiste who has been remanded in Aba prison custody since February of this year. This man is aged 29 and has spent 6 months in prison without anyone willing to come forward and perfect his bail conditions. He was charged for stealing and impersonation and he has been granted bail by the Magistrate Court at World Bank in Aba, Abia State. I tried contacting his surety who was his mother and she was willing to get people that will be eligible to come and fulfill his bail conditions.
However, we weren't able to get his charge sheet and record of court proceedings the first time we went but we have a date to get the documents on Tuesday the 10th of July 2018. Once this is done, his sureties would come and perfect his bail conditions and he would be released on bail. ABSU Law clinic is still committed to providing access to justice to indigent members of the society and we keep striving to do so.
