Upon visit to the Nigerian prison service, Aba, I picked
interest in the case of a young promising man, named Azode Ugochukwu,
who was charged for the offense of stealing and has been remanded for
over six months despite being granted bail by the magistrate, I really
felt bad for the administration of criminal justice in Nigeria, I asked
where went the presumption of innonce in constitution, what happened to
the rule of law, is justice only for those who can afford it?, our AJCA
must rise up to this challenge and ensure speedy trial to pre trial
detainees. Anthony Nkalegbu, writes from Abia State University Law
Clinic, umuahia.
