Education is enlightenment. Whether the classroom education, street education or traveling.
Osiwa/nulai prison project is education and to me a form of enlightenment.
My knowledge of practice and prison welfarism was actually limited to movies until the project.
This project was both an eye opener and soul opener. It made me reach into my deepest mind about law and punishment.
The project made me realise that this is real life and not movies.
It made me see how people think, the society I live in. The action and consequences which might lead a person to damnation.
How greed, anger, vanity destroys.
I was involved with a case. I went to court to follow up the case. The case was however adjourned.
Also the project made me relate with my learning colleagues beyond
the walls of classroom. We had things to discuss and brainstorm. The
clinic occasional case debriefing. It was tasking but it was worth
while.
When we went for prison visitations, some inmates had
hopes in their eyes as if the Messiah has come. These really touched me.
I just wish there was longer duration but what has a beginning has an
end.
In parting words, I really felt impacted with the project, I learnt a lot, not even taught in classroom.
Thank you NULAI. Thank you OSIWA.
